Welcome Message 2025 – Abdou Niang

Welcome Message 2025 – AFRAN President Prof. Abdou Niang

Dear members, colleagues, and visitors,

It is with great honour and deep gratitude that I welcome you as the newly elected President of the African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN).

Since its inception, AFRAN has stood as a cornerstone in the advancement of nephrology across our continent. Today, more than ever, we share a collective responsibility: to amplify Africa’s voice in the global nephrology dialogue while strengthening regional cooperation to address the unique challenges faced in our settings.

A vision for progress, solidarity, and global outreach

Our ambition is clear: to make AFRAN a driving force for innovation, advocacy, and continuous education in nephrology throughout Africa. To achieve this, we are committed to:

  • Building local capacity through training programs, mentoring, and research.
  • Empowering the younger generation of healthcare professionals to embrace nephrology.
  • Promoting a culture of transplantation and kidney disease prevention, tailored to our African contexts.
  • Fostering strong partnerships with scientific institutions, governments, professional societies, and NGOs both within Africa and globally.
  • Transforming AFRAN into a dynamic, inclusive, digital, and multilingual platform, serving both its members and the communities they care for.

A call for collective action

This website is more than a showcase of our work—it is a living platform for dialogue, learning, and mobilisation. I invite you to explore it, engage with it, and contribute your ideas and initiatives.

Together, let us build AFRAN into a united, visible, influential professional community, proudly rooted in Africa and open to the world.

Thank you for your dedication, your trust, and your commitment to nephrology.

With warm regards,

Prof. Abdou Niang
AFRAN President
