Welcome Message 2026 – Abdou Niang
Welcome Message 2026 – AFRAN President Prof. Abdou Niang

Dear colleagues, partners, and visitors,
Welcome to the official website of the African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN).
AFRAN represents a united continental platform dedicated to improving kidney health in Africa. As the burden of chronic kidney disease continues to rise, our mission is clear: strengthen prevention, expand access to quality care, promote transplantation, and ensure that African realities shape sustainable solutions.
We bring together nephrologists, renal nurses, technologists, researchers, and trainees from across the continent and the diaspora. Through collaboration and knowledge exchange, we aim to elevate standards of care and reinforce Africa’s voice in global nephrology discussions.
Our strategic priorities include:
- Advancing education and structured training programs.
- Supporting research relevant to African populations.
- Promoting equitable and sustainable dialysis and transplantation services.
- Advocating for kidney health integration within national noncommunicable disease strategies.
- Empowering young professionals as future leaders in nephrology.
- Building strong partnerships with ministries of health, universities, professional societies, and international organizations.
This website is more than an information portal—it is a dynamic space for dialogue, learning, and collaboration. Here, you will find updates on our initiatives, scientific events, educational opportunities, and partnership programs.
Improving kidney health in Africa requires collective action. By working together across regions and disciplines, we can strengthen health systems, influence policy, and deliver measurable impact for patients and communities.
I invite you to explore, engage, and join us in shaping the future of nephrology in Africa.
With sincere regards,
Prof. Abdou Niang
AFRAN President
